Mataderos, Buenos Aires

Why make your way all the way to the edge of the city to visit a neighborhood whose name translates as “slaughterhouses?” Well, this former meat-packing barrio now packs a different kind of entertainment of the traditional Argentine variety.

On Sundays Mataderos is home to the Feria de Mataderos, a street fair that celebrates the Argentine gaucho in all its glory. Head over and enter the mix of handicrafts, live music, folk dancing, homemade food products and, of course, the gauchos themselves.
