Carnival of Cities comes to Buenos Aires

It’s snow joke…

Yes, another play on words. Deal with it (for those unaware, it just snowed in the city of Buenos Aires for the first time in 89 years).

What is the carnival of cities?

First up, blog carnivals are where someone finds a load of blog posts on a specific topic, and then puts all those posts together in one roundup blog post called a “carnival”. I guess, back in the day when I did the weekly Buenos Aires blog roundups, I was really posting up carnivals. To be honest, it felt more like a circus.

The carnival of cities does exactly what it says on the tin. It includes blog posts submitted from cities around the world, about any aspect of each city – local news, opinions, travel advice, general musings, reports of public lynchings, philosophical treatises on city trash disposal policy, organization of hobo-baiting activities, and the like. Well, maybe some of those are made up. But not all.

Buenos Aires hosts again: mi blog es tu blog…

So, the Carnival of Cities is coming back to Buenos Aires once more. Previously, Cesar at Argentina’s Travel Guide did a sterling job of hosting in our great city. And now, the weight is squarely on my shoulders to produce. The submissions are already pouring in, and quite frankly I’m disappointed: enough posts about the snow in Buenos Aires already! Most of you guys don’t even have a blog here… ;)

To participate, all you need is your own blog. Just write a post about the city of your choice and then submit it via this submission form. Here are the guidelines for submission. Read them with care and take note the strict ban on elephant porn. Send this directly and anonymously to your boss’ personal email account.

The deadline for submissions is this Sunday, July 15th, with the carnival post following on the next day.

Suerte!

Alan, Alan, I’m missing something here. I read your post and those on Home Turf Media several times, because God knows I love a carnival. But I don’t understand; are BsAs bloggers supposed to all write on the same topic (por favor, not the snow!), or whatever topic about BsAs, or whatever topic about whatever city?
    Please help. I’m confused.

    Hi Cherie,

Basically, you can write any post about any topic that is related to any city.

So, most Buenos Aires bloggers would probably write a normal post like they normally write about Buenos Aires. A blogger in San Diego would write about something in San Diego. And so on. And then submit the post to the carnival of cities through the submit link above.

Or, you could write about another city. For example, I submitted a past post I wrote here about Colonia del Sacramento to the carnival of cities.

The idea is to help people find out some more about other cities in the world, and increase traffic/links/happiness for the bloggers writing the posts about their cities.

Sorry if my post was confusing in any way. I was in a silly mood. The only reason I said the carnival is coming to Buenos Aires, and the only connection to Buenos Aires, is that I have been chosen to host the carnival this week (i.e. write the round up post of all the submitted posts about cities).

    Hope that helps!

    Alan

I actually think that circus is a good feel word for these carnivals, but, I guess carnival fits better because everyone gets to go on a “ride” around the world… without leaving home! A circus usually has animals and acrobats… okay, so like you said, circus still fits! :)

So basically what you’re saying is that we should write about the snow?

  5. Alan Patrick Says:

    Hi Evelyn,

Well, I too think that carnival fits better, it just feels like a circus sometimes. ;)

    Hey Nathan,

Basically what I’m saying is that you should write about the snow, in your journal, and never show it to anyone.

    Hope that helps. :)

I´m glad that you didn´t post a long post about snow.

  7. Alan Patrick Says:

Diva – I think we all are.

  8. Dalila Says:

This sounds cool. Don’t worry, I won’t submit my post about the snow ;)

  9. Rob Says:

This is a weird question, but is there a circus in Buenos Aires? I googled this and your post was first, and since I know you know the city, I thought i’d ask
